"The Boy Falls From the Sky" from Spderman: Turn Off the Dark

So the Spiderman musical is finally opening in December with a score written by U2’s Bono and the Edge and directed by Julie Taymor (The Lion King). I’ve been following the development of this musical since its announcement three years ago. I was a bit miffed when I read that the show was almost cancelled earlier this year due to budget problems. And then (at the time) the only two confirmed actors, Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cummings left the show. 

After seeing this morning’s performance of “The Boy Falls From the Sky” on Good Morning America, I am quite confident in the show now, more than I ever was before. Not only in the show itself, but the musical score and the actor chosen to play Peter Parker/Spiderman, Reeve Carney. Never heard of him before in life, until this show came about. He is the lead singer in a band named “Carney” and stars in Julie Taymor’s upcoming flick “The Tempest”, which I’m guessing is a musical version of Shakespeare’s play. Anyway, I’ll post a vid of the performance from GMA. Spiderman comes to Broadway November 14th for previews and officially opens December 21st…

End of the "War"

             During his campaign, President Barack Obama promised that he would end the war in Iraq. A little late, but he finally did what he promised; on Tuesday the President formally announced the end of the US Army’s combat mission in Iraq. Even though we are now in a state of détente, the Iraqi radicals can still start a war if they kill any of the remaining soldiers in Iraq. I’ve had doubts about this whole “War on Terrorism” when it first began in 2003 (I was in the fifth grade). Is the United States fighting to keep the homeland and innocent Iraqi people safe, or is it all for the oil?

            Now that the combat mission is over, I wonder if the country’s economy will bounce back.  It surely doesn’t show any signs of improving, especially since the unemployment rate has risen to 9.6 percent. The markets have been a roller coaster these past few months: one day they’d be up, the next day down.  Since the war just ended, it may take some time, but the President is currently working on another stimulus package and may be this time it will actually  help.
